Overview
Kashmir Administrative Service (KAS) is the highest level of examination offered by the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission. The test is held once a year to select candidates for the various services included in the KAS exam. A Combined Competitive Exam, is used to select candidates. KAS officials function in the same capacity as State PCS officers, and they are only second in importance to the state's IAS officers.
There are three services that are recognized as a result of the examination. The following services are included in the KAS exam - J&K Administrative Service Junior Scale, Service of the J&K Police (Gazetted), and Service for J&K Accounts (Gazetted).

Eligibility
Applicants for the JKPSC must be permanent residents of Jammu and Kashmir.
To prepare for the JKPSC test, the candidate must be over the age of 21 and under the age of 35.
SC, ST, and OBC applicants can be up to 37 years old.
To be eligible for the JKPSC test, candidates must have completed their graduation in any stream from an acknowledged university.
Number of tries: The candidate would be able to take the KAS exam just six times. Candidates from specific categories are given more chances by the commission: EWS (6 attempts), RBA/Social Caste & actual line of control/ PwD (9 attempts), SC/ST (till the age limit)

The KAS syllabus closely resembles the IAS syllabus. The KAS prelims test will be objective in nature, with two papers.

There would be a minimum qualifying grade of 33% for Paper II of the Combined Competitive Examination (Preliminary). The questions will be multiple-choice and objective in nature. For the purpose of assessment, the applicant must sit in both Papers of the Combined Competitive (Prelim) Examination. As a result, if a candidate does not present in both papers of the Combined Competitive (Preliminary) Examination, he or she will be disqualified.
Mains Syllabus KAS: The KAS main exam will consist of eight descriptive type papers.
Candidates should realise that, while the preliminary test is the first and most essential step, the KAS main exam, as the name implies, is the most important stage of the KAS exam. The final merit list is based on the marks obtained in the KAS main test. The syllabus for the KAS main test is fairly similar to that of the IAS major exam. According to the KAS announcement, "the Main Examination is meant to examine applicants' general intellectual qualities and depth of comprehension rather than just the extent of their learning and recollection."

KAS Syllabus for Interview: The goal of the KAS interview is to assess the candidate's personal fit for a career in public service. The interview exam is designed to assess a candidate's mental capacity. In broad words, this is an evaluation of not just his academic abilities but also his social characteristics and interest in current events. Some of the traits to be evaluated are as follows:

The KAS syllabus for the main test covers the KAS interviews as well. The KAS interview will be conducted by a panel of JKPSC members. The panel members will have access to the candidate's professional history.

The Main Exam
Candidates who achieve the cut-off marks in the JKPSC CCE Prelims Exam will be invited to sit for the JKPSC Mains Exam. Candidates who pass the Prelims Exam will be given an application form, which they must complete within the time frame set by the Commission.
The JKPSC Mains Exam will include a written exam as well as a personality test.
The JKPSC Mains Exam consists of eight (8) standard essay papers.
English Paper is the only qualifying paper out of the eight mains papers.
Candidates who get the cut-off marks in the JKPSC Mains Exam will be invited to the Personality Test for Interview. The JKPSC Interview will be worth 250 points.
